Why did Postman erase all my collections?

I am changing my workstation and want my collection (which was made on scratchpad) to be synced to my account. Any idea how should I go about it?

Okay here seems to be the solution Using the Scratch Pad | Postman Learning Center

Good call @altimetry-specialis1 . Fixed my issue.

Postman, please fix this though. Very low quality UX.

Thank you!

Definitely abrasive UX. Glad it was just hiding there. I read the instruction to check settings for scratch pad but I didn’t check the other options under the cog

After I had created the account I opened the installed Postman again and I fell into the trap. All my collections and environments had disappeared. This was the most evil welcome gift I have received so far. With the help of Google and this thread I could recover the data. But these are experiences I can really do without.

SAVED! Thank you for the directions to scratch pad. I found a backup from 2 days ago which was better than nothing but… still a pain to recreate 2 days of work. But now I can just export my collection from scratch pad.

I agree that Local Scratch Pad needs to be visible from the Workspaces drop down, not hidden under some random menu.

I observed similar issue, in latest version(v8.10.0). Once I import Collections and then navigate to other place. It disappears from the collection list. I need to sign out and sign in again.
PS: It was working fine before this update. Maybe I need to switch off automatic update, for future.

Yes happened to me today as well, This is not good experience

You saved me, thanks!

This just happened to me as well and I don’t seem to have any backups on my Mac. How is this still an issue years later?

Same thing happened for me. I signed in and all my local collections were gone. Not a good experience.

I can confirm the old collections can be found in the scratch pad. But whoever thought scaring the users like that was a good enough solution should be embarassed

I was working offline from some years, and today I was moving to another machine. I signed up just to sync my collections so that I can restore on another machine using same user. Alas, all my collections were gone without any apparent way to get them back.

This thread did help me, but this was horrible experience.

It’s almost 2022, and we are still having this dreadful issue. Lost all my collections after signing up. I have Mac so can’t seem to find backup. :frowning:

Adding myself to this list of f*cked users. Stupid postman.

How is this even possible. What a mess!

Hi everyone!
First I’d like to welcome some of our new posters to the community.

I totally understand how frustrating this issue is. This is certainly not the kind of experience we want people to have when using Postman.

When logging into a Postman account, all of your collections are supposed to be synced to your account. You can check this by looking at these links:

From what I have seen, it seems that logging out and logging back in can restore your missing data.

For those using offline/local data, you can try recovering it following some of the info on this resource. Scratch pad may be what you’re looking for!

Man, I used a lot of products but one that erases everything you did for years and hides it in a hole under settings is the first. Your Product Manager should be ashamed of him/herself. Postman immediately became the worst product I have ever used, after using it for years. Please make sure the PM knows it sucks. Unbelievable. The closer experience to this has been with Skype…

It has happened to me twice. From where can I restore my collections? The collection structure is visible, but there is no headers, URL and body? Why do you upgrade without asking to proceed or not?

It happened to me today. On my laptop, I signed out the postman and I reset password and signed back in, saw that my latest collections were no longer there locally or on your postman server. The collections is not on the server due to unsuccessful sync. But why the local collections are gone?
As my postman version was at version 6.., I upgraded to latest version 9.19.2 to view the scratch-pad. Nothing in scratch-pad either.
