My question:
How I can recover my lost workspaces and how I can get my data from the team that I’ve left?
Details (like screenshots):
I have an account on postman from which I’ve joined a team.
I have many workspaces lined to my postman account.
Now I have left the team but all of my workspaces are also lost except for the personal workspace. Those workspaces were not related to the team that I have left.
I also received an email and notifications that all my data related to that team (which I now have left) is now available in my account but that data also did not appear.
one thing that is not lost is some history of the requests I’ve made from the postman.
So my question is how I can recover my lost workspaces and how I can get my data from the team that I’ve left.
How I found the problem:
After I’ve left the team
I’ve already tried:
searching in the postman community, Postman Answers, and google but did not find the answer.
This is absolutely horrible! Same thing just happened to me. “Leave a team, lose all your workspaces with absolutely no way of getting them back!” You guys ever heard of “trash” or a “recycle bin”? You know those were invented for a reason. This is the second time I have lost dozens of API setups in Postman - the first was an upgrade. Well, its the LAST time. Switching to Insomnia.
Were you the owner or the admin of the team that you left?
If you were the only member of the team, your data would still be there.
I appreciate that this is a stressful time but I’m sure if you provided more context and information about your specific issue, we would be able to help you out here.
Yes. I am a solo operator - I don’t even have “a team”. I created 4 or 5 workspaces, dozens of collections with hundreds of API calls over the past 5 or more years. Then I recently created a new workspace and somehow I got a “team”. I didn’t intend to or want to. Then I started getting these “you need to upgrade your plan because of your team” messages so I said “screw it” and deleted the team. Now everything is gone. I’ll grant you that at the last second, while pressing the “OK” button I saw there was a message saying “this will delete all your team AND personal workspaces”, so its my fault for not reading before pressing “OK”, but still, its unconscionable that there isn’t a trash folder, even if it just kept trash for 10 minutes, at least you’d have some opportunity to get your lost work back.
But I did LOTS of reading here and tried all the suggestions about looking for backups, etc., and there’s nothing. The %appdata%/Postman folder looks brand new other than some really old stuff that must be left behind from a previous upgrade. Probably from the upgrade from version 8 to 9? when I lost everything the first time. There’s a ton of stuff I never recovered from that disaster.
Anyway, Insomnia seems to have all the necessary functions without all the extra bloat that I don’t need and which seems to be the source of all these disasters. But I still have to build it all from scratch again and there’s another ton of stuff that I’ll never get back.
As you mentioned, you deleted the account, after confirming that by deleting it all your data will be gone.
If you deleted Collections within the account, those would have been recovered using the trash feature.
I don’t know what happened before with your previous issue and the loss of data. We might have been able to do something about that if we knew more information at the time.
