Does anyone know how to stop Postman from automatically updating?
Hey @waynejoshchevay. You can disable Postman from getting major updates, by toggling the switch in Settings > Update.
Hereās a screenshot for your reference.
It is not possible to disable minor updates and bug fix releases, if that is what you wanted, please open a feature request on our issue tracker on github. (Would like to understand your use case in this scenario.)
Agreed, the automatic minor updates can be frustrating.
I created a feature request here https://github.com/postmanlabs/postman-app-support/issues/6757
@deepak.pathania You sure about that :grimacing
Iāve disabled automatic update and POSTMAN still trying to download update !!
Same here.
I have disabled auto-update.
But, it still updates on its own. Why?
Edit:
Postman automatically downloads minor updates and bug fixes.
Is this due to the above mentioned lines?
The toggle will disable major updates, v7 > v8.
It will still continue to download minor and patch updates, v8.0.0 > v8.1.0 or v8.0.0 > v8.0.1
This is all based on Semantic Versioning, you can find more information about this type of versioning here:
Never click update tab to understand status, never never.
Thatās null about Disabled or Enabled, if you click Update tab? Congratulations, it well run new version next time.
If you need to temporarily work with an older version you should try and find a 9.X.X series, as far as I know the official links are being actively removed and no longer works since the official policy is to push all users to work online only with version 10, but you should be able to find something in the net.
With a 9.X.X series the auto-update feature behaves as expected at least for now.
My company has disabled Admin for us, so every time Postman wants to update (which is almost EVERY DAY), I have to submit a new request for temporary admin, which takes about 5-10 minutes to get approved. This is incredibly ANNOYING. There is no other product on the planet that requires me to update so often AND doesnāt let me control it. Unbelievable. Iām going to uninstall this product and post about this BUG until you fix it.
Disabled Postman updates now back to coding with Spotify official on!
Exactly, they push minor updates on daily basis thatās extremely annoying
Agreed. My company also requires temporary admin credentials and multiple times a day postman prompts me for an update.
I had the same issue with Postman auto-updates ā he only thing that worked for me was blocking its update servers in the hosts file. Simple fix, and it stopped bugging me.
Is it still working.
It is so annoying that Postman does not have a simple switch that turns off auto updates.
Has this changed? Iām not seeing any ability to turn off any update, minor or major. Postman ā Settings ā Updates only shows āCheck for updatesā button. The āAutomatically download major updatesā setting isnāt there..
Hey @martin-173a339d
Is this on the Desktop or Web? Which version are you using and what OS?
Its crazy that Postman does not have the ability to disable ALL (major and minor) updates. Most companies donāt allow admin rights to its end users so this built-in app updater (āInstaller Helperā requests) creates frustration both to the end users and help desks who have to constantly manage the tickets for this.
MDMs can be used to manage app updates for Postman without requiring admin rights. However, if we cannot disable the built-in app version checker it will continue throwing up āInstall Helperā requests causing a negative user experience. If an MDM is managing Postman app updates (which is preferred by most companies) then there is no need for the standalone Postman app to manage its own updates. This is why we need the option to disable ALL updates. It would be an added bonus if we can manage these update settings using a configuration profile pushed down from an MDM.
If you block the update server traffic (dl.pstmn.io) at the network level its likely the MDM cannot get the latest version so that option is off the table.
Iām surprised this post was created in Feb. 2019 (7 years ago) and nothing has changed and looking through all the similar posts trying to find a way to disable these updates is a little disconcerting that we may never get this very simplistic feature added.
Agreed that I now cringe every time I need to use Postman, because I know an update is going to interrupt my flow.
I just want to get my work done and not be nagged every time I open the app.
Please put yourself in our shoes. This is a terrible UX.

Welcome to the Postman Community! ![]()
Could you share more about which part interrupts your workflow - Is it a pop up?
Does this help here?
