Postman auto-updated into a version not available to my OS (macOS 10.15.7 Catalina) today

Since today, when trying to open the Postman app, the following message appears and it does not open:

You can’t use this version of the application “Postman” with this version of macOS.

You have macOS 10.15.7. The application requires macOS 11.0 or later.

This happened after an unprompted update, and now I’m stuck because I can’t find a download link for older versions. I can’t even find info on what was the version that supposedly dropped support for Catalina.

Actually, these docs mention that it’s still supported. What is going on?

Postman is available for macOS 10.15 (Catalina) and later.

Hi @berbare :waving_hand:. Welcome to the Postman Community :postman:.

I will recommend you raise a ticket here and attach your application logs so we can take a closer look at your account to better understand what may be wrong.

Done! Thank you for the instructions

Hi! What instructions? Did they answer you in the ticket? How can I get Postman to work on macOS 10.15.7 now? The situation is of course extremely unpleasant, instead of continuing to work, I have to jump around the forums and look for why something that worked yesterday stopped working! Maybe there is a link somewhere to download the previous version?

Hi Mike, by instructions I meant only the "extract the logs and send a ticket“ bit.

Unfortunately no, I didn’t get an answer so far (though we just had a weekend).

I agree this is an awful situation, and much could be mitigated by providing a link to download a previous version. I’ve tried workarounds to open Postman but nothing’s helped. I’ve also tried alternative applications but most of them have the same problem, which feels weird (one of them even replied to my request for support via email, unaware of this 11.0+ requirement). The only one I found and still working for my machine is ApiDog.

Good luck for us

Thanks for the answer, Leonardo ! I found an application that works on our vintage Macs - HTTPie (the first link in Google). Perhaps it is not correct to advise here. But there are no options. We have to work somehow. I hope you read this before this advice is possibly deleted. Good luck to us!

Hello! Is the Postman app development team mentally challenged? My Postman app was updated without my consent, and it stopped working because it requires macOS 11, and the web version can’t send requests to IP:internal port…

Is the Postman team stupid?

Hi @nuntws.eng.

I’m really sorry about the frustration you’ve experienced. We remain very committed to giving you the best experience within the product.

We are following up internally to understand why this is the case. In the meantime, I would recommend you do the following:

This should get you up and running on the web version of Postman.
@aerospace-geologis18 @berbare, I would recommend doing this temporarily as well.

I understand how this disrupts your workflows and truly apologize for the experience you’ve had. In the meantime, information that will be helpful to us as we investigate this will be:

  • Your Postman version. (Navigate to :gear: > Settings > About)
  • Your MacOS Version

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks,
~Debo

Thanks for the reply. I’m already using another REST application temporarily until this is resolved. Attached is the information you requested. the updated postman.app does not open, it shows a text box saying that the app is not compatible with my version of macOS and closes.

Just in case someone else wants to try this as well, we found a download link for previous versions of Postman and I tried a few of them pinpointing which one is the latest working under Catalina. For me, it was Postman v11.58.3.

Here’s the link to download it: https://dl.pstmn.io/download/version/11.58.3/osx

Unfortunately I fear it might auto-update as soon as I close it (it already downloaded updates after first opening)… unless someone else figures out how to disable it from auto-updating, then please let me know!

hello, good day.

news???

hello… any news after 16d??? thanks

Hey @nuntws.eng :waving_hand:

Jumping in here, I’m unsure of the response you’re waiting for here but as per the release notes for 11.60.2 - macOS 10 (Catalina) and earlier are no longer supported.

Have you been able to access your Workspaces and use the elements via the Web Platform (https://go.postman.co)?

Hello, thank you for your reply.

If you look a little further up, you can see that member Gbadebo Bello (Postman) said he would investigate why this new version of Postman is no longer compatible with macOS Catalina and asked for information about my Mac version.

Therefore, I’m awaiting a response on this.

I understand that you improve and update the Postman app and that it may eventually become incompatible with a macOS version. What I don’t accept is the app being updated without my permission and ceasing to work with all my endpoints.

Regarding your question about the web version, it doesn’t work for testing on embedded devices on a local network.

So I ask again: “What’s wrong with the Postman app development team?” Because it doesn’t make sense for the app to update itself without my permission and there’s no option to turn off auto-update… For example, if I download the latest version of Postman on Windows 7, will the app refuse to work?

Thank you.

I believe that was before discovering more information about the latest versions of Postman not supporting macOS 10 (Catalina) or earlier.

Is that the case when also using the Postman Desktop Agent and having that selected in the Web platform?

Have you tried using those together? Is that showing you an error?

It wouldn’t work on Windows 7, as that’s not a supported version.

I have since been replied through my support ticket, and they suggested a way to prevent Postman from automatically updating. I’m not on my Mac right now so I can’t confirm but the idea is to open the “Get info“ panel on the application (right click), and fill the checkbox that says “Locked“. This way, when the application wants to update, we should be able to dismiss it through a dialog box.
