Looks like this is fixed in version 11.43.4 of Postman, released last week. Clicking a request no longer opens a new tab, so you don’t end up with the sea of a gazillion tabs open.
To use switch back and forth between recently-viewed requests, use alt+left-arrow or alt+right-arrow.
