Saving environmental variable, does not save its value after save

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create new environmental variable (with value)
  2. Save, press Ctrl+S for example
  3. Export environmental variable to local machine as json file.
  4. If we open this file we see that this new variable is without assigned value

We noticed this behavior in the last week.

Why does the value not persist after export?

Hey @maja-medved :waving_hand:t3:

Welcome to the Postman Community :waving_hand:

Have you explicitly shared the value before exporting the file?

Those values are local by default and unless you share then, then will not been seen others and not part of the exported file.

Thank you for quick reply.

If I save explicitly and click on that cloud icon, everything works. But my issue is that I didn’t have to share it explicitly before to successfully export it. When did this workflow change?

Previously, everything was shared/synced by default now this is local by default. This is designed to reduce the risk of unintentionally sharing or syncing data to the Postman Cloud.

The change to the variable experience was introduced back in September 25. It also brought in a number of other improvements.

From an export point of view, this would have been the same if you only had values in the current value field - those wouldn’t have been seen in the file.
